Houston Was The First Word Spoken On The Moon. Because of the Johnson Space Center and Mission Control’s location in Houston, when the Apollo 11 astronauts first called back to Earth, Houston was who they were talking to. “Houston, the Eagle has landed,” was the first sentence ever broadcast back from the moon, and Houston the first word. Space City will forever be ingrained in the history of human spaceflight.
